Biometrics is a type of data related to a specific physical or behavioral features of an individual, that can be used to uniquely identify that individual.
Biometric data include fingerprints, voice patterns, face recognition, retina pattern, etc.
Processing of biometric data and all personal data revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinion, religious beliefs or health data is prohibited under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), unless the data subject has given explicit consent, or there are specific circumstances.
For example, national security reasons, protection of fundamental rights and the interests of the data subject; or the processing is necessary for legal claims or activity of the court in their judicial capacity.
